VCMI at NYCW 2024
The VCMI team is looking forward to attending New York Climate Week in September, where we will be hosting and participating in various programs aimed at addressing the climate crisis and accelerating real-world climate action.
The Voluntary Carbon Market is critical to meeting our global climate goals. On Wednesday September 25, VCMI will be co-hosting a full-day event, Accelerating Climate Action: Delivering High-Integrity Carbon Markets, in collaboration with the Integrity Council for the Voluntary Carbon Market (ICVCM) and the Global Carbon Market Utility (GCMU).
Together, these organizations play unique, complementary roles in reforming the voluntary carbon market to support and accelerate global climate goals. From the supply of high-quality credits, to integrity in how credits are bought and sold in the market, to the use of credits and claims made about their use, our shared goal is to unlock the potential of voluntary carbon markets to mobilize much needed climate finance and achieve real impact.
Organizations including WBCSD, US ETA, We Mean Business Coalition (WMBC), ACMI, and GenZero will host sessions that explore current challenges, and real-world solutions, including the role of Indigenous Peoples and local communities in a reformed VCM, corporate best practice for tackling Scope 3 emissions, managing risk in nature-based solutions, demand scenarios, and more. The event will include insights from those pledging to step up, debate on what’s getting in the way, and agreements on how to make progress quickly.
